Week 5 - Building permit!

We finally got our building permit for our extension this week. Now things can really move. Not too much else to see apart from...

Week 4 - Plumbing

More plumbing this week. Not much else as the new city engineer has added more delays so we can't get started on the extension just yet.

We did choose countertops for the kitchen this week - we went with quartz which is much harder, longer lasting and needs less maintenance than granite. The color is a deep blue and will look something like this:

End of week 3 - Plumbing and framing

We had another delay in getting the building permit for the extension this week. The contract engineer wanted a soil sample now which could cost thousands and delay by a few more weeks. We just found out that this engineer contractor was fired by the city for being a douchebag and we are meeting with a new one on Tuesday that should approve us so we can get going.

While we waited for the permits we moved the plumbing forward:

The above shot is from the garage where we are creating a laundry area and place for the waterheater:

The bathrooms were framed in this week. We decided to go a little extra special in the master bathroom and vault the ceiling in there to help it feel a little more spacious. We will add sun tubes (alternatives to skylights) to make it lighter and still private.

We are reducing the width of the linen closet by the guest bathroom to make the corridor there feel wider.

We selected the shower units:
Solace Brushed nickel ExactTemp shower only

Also the guest bedroom was framed in so now there is a single entrance from the corridor. It feels smaller than we would have hoped and so we are going to make this into Ethan's room as he does not need much space at the moment. This enables us to use the other room as a combination office and guest bedroom.
